ZIFT (Zygote Intrafallopian Transfer)

15space.gif (44 bytes)For indications of low sperm count, the ZIFT procedure is a useful technique which combines both GIFT and IVF. In vitro fertilization is performed as described, and two days later instead of performing the embryo transfer through the vagina, a mini laparoscopy is performed and the embryos are placed in the fallopian tube much like the GIFT procedure. The advantages of ZIFT in male factor infertility include knowing that fertilization has occurred and that fertilized egg are placed in the most optimal environment, namely the fallopian tube so that further development and implantation may occur naturally.
